Thanksgiving run.

Put on my big boy pants and got 3 miles in.  Highly recommend this running app called Map My Run.  It uses GPS to track your time, distance, and avg mileage.  It also stores your runs.  Pretty sweet.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Trying to lose weight and Thankgiving is like trying to stay dry at a waterpark...it's possible but not a whole lot of fun.  Of course my overachiever wife already ran a 5K this morning, here is a picture.

She got a PR (personal record) today of 29:10.  The run was sold out before she could sign me up, so I didn't get to do it.  But I did run 3 miles night before last, and I did it in 34:30, so...I have some catching up to do! So proud of her.

But back to Thanksgiving.  So I can't think of a bigger weight loss trap than today.  Not only is there food everywhere, eating until you can barely breathe is wholeheartedly encouraged.  I literally just started seeing some gains, since last Saturday I had (and I mean had) lost 5 pounds.  However, Thanksgiving #1 last night at Shea's aunt's house resulted in waking up 3 pounds heavier.  I think that will be a whole seperate blog post all together, all the things that effect weight and the pros/cons of weighing in daily.

So...today is one of those days I was talking about the other day.  "It's Thanksgiving, the gym is closed, it is cold outside, I can just take today off and run tomorrow." Then I will proceed to eat EVERYTHING in sight for the rest of the day, and probably end the week at or higher than I started.

Not this time.  As soon as I finish this post, I am taking myself outside and I am going to get in those 3 miles.  I will not eat until I get a food coma today.  Am I a little jealous of those who will...absolutely.  But I am on a bigger mission right now, and so I am willing to do what it takes.

I would be remiss on a day like today to not say that I am incredibly blessed with wonderful family and friends, a great job, a home to live in and healthy and happy children.  God has been very good to me.

My Inspiration!

I thought I might include a few pictures of my family for those of you who might now be friends with us on Facebook.  I have a lot to be thankful for, and I plan on getting healthy and in shape to enjoy them even more!

Wow!!!

Since my wife posted this blog on Facebook today, I have already had over 150 pageviews!  That's awesome!  I hope you all will continue to check in on my progress, and please, feel free to comment with encouragement, tips, things that have worked for you, etc!

Weight loss reality check

Ok, so it's been a bit from the time I started this blog to now, so I feel like it is important that I address a reality that I am facing, one that we all must face when staring down a challenge, and that is that this isn't easy.  I have been given a great opportunity.  A great coach in Missy Kane.  A great group of people going on this journey with me.  A fitness and nutrition program designed by professionals specifically for me.  FREE ACCESS to a great gym!!!

But the reality is while all that stuff helps, in the end, none of it will be what creates change.

What will?  The answer is me.  What's inside me.  Only I can change me.  Only I can choose what I eat, when I eat, and how much. No one is going to get me to the gym and get me running but myself.  My wife Shea can encourage, fuss, lecture, plead, or whatever else, and she has for a year and a half now, and I am about 20 lbs from the heaviest I have ever been in my life (292 lbs currently).

Only me.  I can make every excuse in the book, and believe me I have.  "I'll start on Monday."  "I'll start on the first of the month, so I can have a whole month to measure."  "It's my birthday/thanksgiving/christmas/tailgating/date night/a day that ends in y."  I have made every excuse there is, and now I am done.  No more excuses.  No more reasons to delay, to cheat myself of the body and the confidence and the life I deserve.  It starts now.

Hope ya'll are ready.

All Aboard!!!

My name is Kenneth Bane, and I am lucky enough to have been chosen to be a part of Missy Kane's Knoxville Marathon Team Biggest Winner program.  In a nutshell, it is about weightloss and getting healthy, and I am really excited to be a part of it.  I wanted to create this blog so I could share all along the way, and maybe I will inspire someone else out there who is struggling with their own weight issues.

Thanks for following me!
